Agriculture, within the State GDP of the primary sector, agriculture is the most important activity and participates with 0.19% of the GDP of national agriculture. The main crops for their production value are sugar cane, jalapeƱo pepper, corn, sweet orange, rice, watermelon, vegetables and various fruit trees.Livestock, the main exploited species are cattle with approximately 110 thousand heads, pigs with 150 thousand heads and bees with approximately 107 thousand hives.

Forestry For a long time, the state economy was based on the exploitation of precious woods such as cedar and mahogany and the exploitation of sapodilla resin for the manufacture of chewing gum.Fishing, with 860 km of coastline and 264 thousand hectares of bays, estuaries and lagoons suitable for aquaculture, fishermen prefer to catch species such as lobster, shrimp and snail. The catch volume is approximately 4 thousand tons per year.Industry, 1,812 manufacturing establishments and 110 companies dedicated to the construction industry. The manufacturing industry is related to food products, wood and clothing. Most of it is the industry related to hotels and construction.Tourism is the most important activity in the State. The economic benefit in 1997 was around 2,707 million dollars.The tourist influx is approximately 5.5 million tourists, including visitors to Belize and cruise ship passengers. 81% of tourists are foreigners. The main means of transport for tourists is by air, and the arrival of international tourist cruise ships that arrive in Cozumel, Playa del Carmen and Cancun is also important.
